On GMVR we finished playing Journey of a Roach from Daedelic Entertainment. It was an exceptionally fun click adventure, filled with some fun wall climbing and puzzle solving mechanics. The visual design was really fun, and I loved the way that the speech bubbles were drawings rather than text. It gave a wonderful cartoon feeling to the game. Have a look at our play-through series to see all the ins and outs of this post-apocalyptic adventure game.

The past few months I have been working on a new video blog called GMVR. It's a gaming channel that's not trying to redefine anything, just have fun with my depressed friend on Mondays. The worst days ever, now get a little better. So here we are playing Nanocrafter.org. It's a free to play puzzle game that teaches a better understanding about convalescent stands and such. I'm still not sure what we were doing though. But it was fun! Have a try yourself and see how far you can get.
Gamification has become a very hot topic for many companies, startups and organizations. Most people want to learn some basics of game design to help them with creating better applications, platforms and services. Wouldn't it be great if you could do a crash course to learn the basics of Game Design?
Many of you know that I have been teaching New Media and Game Design at the HKU for many years now ...
Are you a fan of 'The Big Lebowski'? Well, I've got something pretty cool for you. And for FREE!!!
Two girls fighting on a rotating floor at Oktoberfest in Munich Germany. This attraction is over 100 years old. Freaking hilarious to watch these 2 girls punch each other senseless. Video from http://gabemac.com
This weekend it happend. My friend Isabelle has been organizin a Dance Flshmob in Amsterdam as a tribute to Michael Jackson. I helped her with some of the production and the editing of the official video. It was an amazing time. Some 1,000 Michael Jackson fans gathered in the Vondel Park on July 19,2009. There they learned how to dance Michael Jackson's Thriller and then took to the streets of Amsterdam. They flashmobed Museumplein, Leidseplein, Keizersgracht and Dam Square before the day was done. And some even flashmobed thier own living rooms. It was an amazing event to be a part of. I've got some of the official t-shirts for sale from the event. Proceeds of T-shirt sales goto Michael's "Heal The World" charity. Below is a list of sites with the video on it for sending. For more links check http://flashmobamsterdam.tumblr.com

Since I've been back in Amsterdam, I have been unable (too lazy) to get a bike. My old one, is dead somewhere near GabeB's place and I can't find the key. Marc had another bike which he lost the key to outside my house since August. Good condition though. I finally got around (was awake and in the country, and remembered that I could) to going to the bike shop across the street to get the lock taken off. They do this between 10 and 12 on Saturday. I mean seriously, when you go out on a Friday night, the last thing you think about is getting a bike lock sawed on a Saturday morning. I finally got to it, and Marc even threw in a new seat for it. What a great friend! He has a video and some great pics on his blog here. I can't tell you how nice it is to have a bike again in Amsterdam. After cleaning it, throwing on some stickers (need to customize your bike in Amsterdam always), and putting the seat on, we went for a ride in the VondelPark. I was so happy, like a kid who just got a new bike for Christams. That's really how it feels. Even in these rough times, it is with a little help from my friends like Marc that help me through. MARC YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!
Have you played PowerPoint Karaoke yet? Ok this is one for the real nerds and geeks. The rules are simple. 1. Have a powerpoint or slideshow that no one knows yet. 2. A presentor tries to present the Powerpoint or Slideshow and make a coherent (and often humoruos) presentation. 3. (Optional) Presentor must take a shot after every second slide or other interval for drinking game varioation.
I first saw this played at Kinnernet09. I realised this is an excellent game to use in my presentation techniques course at the HKU. Unfortunately there is a lack of powerpoints created for Powerpoint Karaoke. so I had my students make a bunch of them. Here is a whole slew of free Karaoke presenations that you can use with your friends or co-workers that they made. Just click on one of the links and start playing.

Next week I am attending the HKU Design for Virtual Theater and Games EXPO in Utrecht at the Huis aan de Werf. It will be a great show on June 18 and 19. Don't miss it!
For an example there are a couple free games to try out that some of my students made. Felisberto de Brito has made eggCademy and Ziggy Naumann has made Hotel Luma. Both are in the running for the Festival of Games 2009 award from the NLGD. Go and check them out if you can't handle the humpday this week. Enjoy!
UPDATE:
Felis just emailed me that he has an english version of his game online to enjoy. http://eggcademy.com
