Interview with Tim Kring, creator of Heroes and Knight Rider. He talks about Alternate Reality Games and Transmedia production.
I've been back for a bit in Amsterdam working on my new job since being at the DLD conference in Munich. Gabe Bauer and I got to go there and make some more videos this year. They've been published on the DLD site and I'll be adding more of the next days. However, I usually get to have one really great interview with someone I really admire at the DLD. This year I had the pleasure of interviewing Tim Kring. Tim Kring is the creator of the popular tv series "Heroes". The number one illegally downloaded show. But he doesn't get to pissed at me when I admit that in the interview. But Tim does talk about the trans media approach to creating Heroes. From TV to websites to mobile and Alternate Reality Games planned for June in England. And of course his favorite super power he would like to have. Enjoy the interview!

At the moment I'm talking with Marius Veltman. He has a really awesome tutorial and technique about how to do Video Mapping or a Augmented Reality experience. We are talking about doing a project together for the Cannabis Cup here in Amsterdam to really freak out some people together with the guys form Hemp Works. Just have a look at the experiments that he has made. And get excited. It is a new technique which some have been very good at. However up until now only Marius has shared his findings and techniques. Most are keeping their cards very close to themselves on how it is achieved. Just check out his site where there are also documents about how to do it yourself. Very cool Marius!
This weekend it happend. My friend Isabelle has been organizin a Dance Flshmob in Amsterdam as a tribute to Michael Jackson. I helped her with some of the production and the editing of the official video. It was an amazing time. Some 1,000 Michael Jackson fans gathered in the Vondel Park on July 19,2009. There they learned how to dance Michael Jackson's Thriller and then took to the streets of Amsterdam. They flashmobed Museumplein, Leidseplein, Keizersgracht and Dam Square before the day was done. And some even flashmobed thier own living rooms. It was an amazing event to be a part of. I've got some of the official t-shirts for sale from the event. Proceeds of T-shirt sales goto Michael's "Heal The World" charity. Below is a list of sites with the video on it for sending. For more links check http://flashmobamsterdam.tumblr.com

Many people wonder how Viral Campaigning works. Many beleive that all you have to do is make a funny video woth a cat and that will spread the message. Sorry, that was about 2-3 years ago. The truth is nowadays you have to create a Multi Media Alternate Reality Game. Otherwise known as an ARG. There are puzzles spread over the internet, areas to communicate with other players, real world phone calls and emails. This is how you create a Viral. Not just a 30 sec. clip but an allround Media experience, puzzle and immersion. These are the types of projects that my students have been developing over the last few years. One of the first of my DVTG students created on his own, with no budget, an alternate reality game that spread from temples in Thailand, lockers in London, phone calls from New York and the Vatican. Using the tools available all over the internet with free sites, this is how Alternate Reality Games are spread. Below we see a video of the Dark Night Campaign, and there are 2 of the Transformers virals that were spread. Those videos spread from the transformers is called, "The Rabbit Hole". Or the first video trigger that leads one into the Alternate Reality Game.
I haven't had a TV in Holland for a little over a year now. Actually I never really watched dutch TV to be honest when I did. When Bicyclemark skyped Amserdamize and I if we wanted to be on TV, we said sure why not? A friend of his Shylo (fun geek girl who loves games) +, was asked to be on about the whole Twitter and Iran story. She was friends with BicycleMark and he called us and we went with the 4 of us there. I cannot devulge all that happend but it was lots of surprises. I thought it was going to be some Dutch sitting around a table drinking coffee talk type of program which they have mastered. Nope it was a revision of the classic "The Gong Show " but now with audience support and twitter. Something called " NON". I broadcasted backstage via my live stream and some stuff after wards on Qik . But to really see how it went, just watch the clip. Warning it is in Dutch, and it makes no sense at all! A BIG SHOUT to Zenuno for recording this and putting it up for us so quick! and ANOTHER BIG SHOUT to J.P. Oosterom that took the twitpic. Love ya guys!
