Creativity not a Job Req.
Categories: life, thought, Work

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3175/3059141342_e84103e318.jpgIt seems that I am to creative to get a regular job. My whole life I’ve always been in startups. Even as a teenager. I never really understood why it was. Until lately that is. I’ve been looking for work too pay off enormous debts from bankruptcies at Mobuzz.tv and Xolo.tv (notice there is nothing to link too on those 2 sites?).

Only time I travel is if it is getting paid for by a speaking job or something, which I then couch surf and hang out with some of my great friends all over the world. So don’t feel to bad for me. In that sense I’m blessed. But I digress. I’ve been looking for a job, and I keep getting these type of rejections. Like this one I just got in:

Is saw you application for Producer Interactive Media. Thank you for that. To be frank: I don’t think its the right job for you. You seem way to creative and enterprising for this type of work that is basically organizing, negotiating budgets, making plannings etc. You probably thought It was much more exciting….

No really, I just need the money man! I’ll be less creative! I’ll conform! I’ll wear a suit to work and not my pajamas! I’ll show up at 9:00 in the morning and stay till 5, rather than coming in at 10 and staying until 5 in the morning which I usually do! … … …

oh who am I kidding. New job ad for me. “Creative will live for food!”

' You seem way to creative and enterprising for this type of work' That really sucksGabe.
But It does explain a lot. I will be out of a job in little over a month and will be prepared for that same kind of rejection now. Thumbs up, let's stay creative for food, and drinks ;-)

  2. So creative and enterprising are bad traits for someone who needs to organize, negotiate budgets, make plannings etc.? With which they say that all those elements do not need a sense of creativity? With which they say that they will never want to move forward in their workflow, be able to cut great corners during projects and think about effective plannings?

On the one hand I think it sucks you get rejected for that, on the other hand I think you should be glad that they force you not to become a drone, much like they are.

So however inconvenient it might be, it's their loss. They don't seem to want bleeding edge products and they don't seem to get what today's media world is all about if it would hit them in the head like a meteorite.

Thanks Maykel. It's funny I used to teach Tv Stations how to improve their live broadcast and broadcast networks using Apple systems. But I guess I do hate exhell too much. Better off.

That's all we need, creativity for food man. Oh and rent and health insurance would be nice as well. :-)

HAHAHA! Story of my life… I fear the day I loose my current job and have to hunt for something where people can be open minded to take a chance based surface level perceptions.

  6. Don't forget to mention the drinks mate ;-)

  7. The worst part of exhell.. It works better on Windows than on the Mac. And with better I mean, it works on Windows; trying to use Excel on the Mac is trying to get Shaquille O'Neal into an original Fiat 500.

So after finally entering office-life, you will then also have to choose between Windows or Excel on the Mac. With your creativity you'd use Numbers – a creative solution for your problem – but your office peers would not support you and you'd be converting files all day long.

Come to think about it, this would be quite a funny comedic film-noir style short-film.

Still.. I hope the financial situation works out, mate.

U are absolutly right on this one. I use numbers rether than exhell all the time. Oh and Keynote as well, and pages, just becuase I hate that MicroOrrifice. I mean Office is like Word Perfect back in the 90's nowadays in my opinion. So unintuitive.
