Sleep

This weekend a friend asked me how the hell I was able to be doing all the things I was doing. Starting a company (XOLO), teaching, volunteer work, my own blog, conference touring etc. Well, I just don’t sleep much actually. I’ve seen a doctor about it without much success. Pills, meditation, relaxtion music, all of it only get’s me about 6 hours max of sleep. However I love naps. I can dose off at any time during the day for 30min. wake up and feel great. There is something to this. I think it is just a rythym that some people are better acustomed to than others. In Spain the nap or seiesta is in the culture. Not so much in other places. I mean I get more work done, with less sleep than most people, so should we maybe look at naps for people like me and Marlooz in society? I think so. (BTW, I think this is a reason why Marlooz and I are going to be good roomates.) There are studies that napping increases productivity. And it sure is better than using substances to try and get a good nights sleep.

  1. Okay, I felt I had to comment on this, as I am exactly the same way. On average I get 4 – 5 hours sleep a night. People think I am crazy and I also have been to see a doctor, and all he said was if you are not tired when you wake up then there is nothing wrong. And I too take naps during the day (when I am not at work). Maybe it is a new condition that has not been discovered yet because too few people suffer from it for it to be called a condition. And although I also get a lot done during the day, I still fell there are not enough hours in the day. I also live in Madrid in Spain, but I’ve only been here 5 months and this has been my sleep pattern for 11 years now, so the two are in no way related.

    Anyway interesting, I thought I was the only one of my kind out there.
